really wish you guys would stop treating “unchecked racism” and “uncritical media consumption as a pillar of personal identity” as inherent autistic traits :/

“it’s ableist to find fault with this person’s actions because they’re autistic” “some people are autistic susan!”  actually… it’s ableist to decide autistic people are incapable of growing and improving.  nice try tho

to clarify - this post is about white autistic people and their “”allies”” using disability as a “gotcha” when they are accused of racism or otherwise poor behavior

and about people who call “ableism” when they are (rightfully) criticized for being unable to consume media in healthy and critical ways…

a) a lot of people have mentioned that calling ableism to excuse racism also ignores autistic poc and makes the autistic community a hostile space for them. wanted to draw attention to that and also point out that nonwhite, esp black, autistic people are the people we should be most focused on protecting and uplifting within our communities

b) allistics. im begging you to stop equating autism with mental illness in the tags. autism is not a mental illness, it cannot be compared to depression or anxiety, to say it can be is harmful. do your research.
